The Proactive Partner
This course is near and dear to my heart. My husband is a medical student, and as I prepared for my unmedicated hospital birth we did not have the funds for a doula and my husband had limited time to practice birthing techniques. As I took an online birth course, I would mark segments that were “must knows” for my husband to go back and watch when he had time— I knew there had to be a better way! Thus, The Proactive Partner course was born. A daddy doula style class with only the most relevant information so that partnerships can feel empowered in any birth situation ((without breaking the bank OR wasting time)).
What we’ll cover
-
✺ The innate Design of Childbirth
In this section we discuss the anatomy and physiology of birth, true vs. false labor, the stages of labor, and when to leave for the hospital. You’ll end this section with an appreciation and trust for a birthing person’s instinctive ability to birth!
-
✺ Labor Toolkit
This heavily interactive segment includes pain theories, coping and pain relief options, laboring and pushing positions, and proactive partner duties. You’ll end this section feeling prepared to implement the right tools at the right time.
-
✺Complications & Advocacy
Here we dive deep into the cascade of intervention, induction, cesarean section, pain relief options, common interventions, and communication strategies. This portion of class will empower you to make informed decisions and communicate effectively with your care team.

This course is designed to prepare your birth companion to support you during labor. A birth companion could be a spouse, partner, parent, sibling, best friend, or whoever is planning to accompany you during your birth! Payment includes a spot for you and one birth partner.
-
For 1,000 reasons- YES! The Proactive Partner allows your birth companion to be informed and comfortable with the process of childbirth, and teaches a variety of tools that your doula may or may not be prepared to implement. Additionally, depending on the contract, doulas often wait to assist with the birth until active labor- so it is helpful to have a partner who is ready to help at any time during labor!

I recommend attending this birth class between 28-36 weeks so that you have time to practice but not too much time that you forget important information.
