FAQs

I’m planning to get an epidural- should I still take your birth class?

I encourage all couples to take a birth class regardless of their birth plan! Being prepared with a toolkit to cope with contractions will help you to have an empowering birth experience in the time leading up to receiving your epidural. Furthermore, we cover a variety of topics in class including the best time to receive an epidural to minimize risk of cesarean section, and how to maximize dilation while you have an epidural!

When should I take a birth class?

I recommend taking a birth class any time between 28-36 weeks. This ensures you retain the information you need for your birth without going into labor before you finish the course. If you are 36 weeks or later, you still have time to prepare for any birth- including unmedicated! I’d recommend booking a One-on-One experience as soon as possible.

What class is best for me?

Each class has their own benefits depending on your personal situation. I recommend The Proactive Partner course for couples who want a condensed class, or have limited funds or time before delivery. The Proactive Pregnancy is all encompassing and includes more tools for mom’s labor preparation and postpartum care. I recommend this course if you and your partner both have the time and energy for a longer, more in depth course. My one-on-one option is great for couples who have very specific pregnancy and birth goals, or who cannot attend any of the other class times due to scheduling difficulties or a rapidly approaching due date. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

What can I expect in your birth class?

The Proactive Pregnancy birth classes are interactive, engaging, and informative. I accept 4 couples per class, and I welcome discussion and questions. Each class is structured to include PowerPoint information and discussions, followed by interactive activities such as videos and hands-on practice. Expect to be inspired by the innate nature of birth, and equipped with tools and techniques to allow birth to take its natural course.

Do you follow a specific childbirth curriculum?

I have created a curriculum including techniques from several childbirth methods. Rather than being restricted to a single method, I’m proud to offer partnerships a wide variety of tools and techniques for coping with labor to ensure they are equipped with every opportunity to succeed.
